Book your tour with a volunteer guide
Cooneana Heritage Centre houses six architecturally significant buildings dating from the 1860s to the1970s. The complex is home to the only specialised coal mining museum in the Ipswich area, as well as a general museum of photographs, maps, artefacts and displays depicting Ipswich's rich history. A WW1 exhibit entitled "Ipswich at War and the Home Front 1914 - 1918" highlights the region's military links. A comprehensive research library with professional librarians is available to assist with your information needs. Guided tours of our picturesque grounds and buildings, with informative narratives, are offered by our friendly team.
Please note:
On Thursdays in terms 2 and 3, an interactive, curriculum-aligned education program is provided by our volunteers for schools and their students. We suggest you avoid booking for a guided tour on Thursdays between 23 April and 25 June, and between 16 July and 17 September.
