Cooneana Homestead
“Cooneana” Homestead was built by Samuel Pearson Welsby shortly after he purchased the property on the 17th April, 1868.
Samuel P Welsby came to Australia from England, arriving on the “Fortitude” in Moreton Bay on the 20th January 1849.
For a short time before “Cooneana” was built, the family lived at “Ashfield House” Redbank.
The land on which “Cooneana” still stands was purchased from a sale of Crown Land, Selection No. 18 for a sum of 160 pounds. The original property was of 557 acres, being Portion 283, Ipswich District, County of Stanley, Parish of Goodna.
The restoration of this historic homestead is an ongoing project of the Ipswich Historical Society.
