25 years at Cooneana
Saturday 10 May the Ipswich Historical Society celebrated 25 years on this site.
Ongoing development of the site since the Ipswich Historical Society gained access in the year 2000 has resulted in the great Centre you see today. The Historical Society's membership has also grown significantly in this time. Information and photos will demonstrate the ways in which Ipswich City Council and the Society have worked together to create a beautiful site that is devoted to the preservation of Ipswich history and the traditional skills that contributed so much to the city.
We saw the unveiling of Banjo, a sixteen-hand horse created with metal rods by one of our blacksmiths, Mr Peter (Ned) Kelly for the Society. Mr Kelly told us why Banjo has his name - a very interesting family story. Ned's skill and creativity have given the Society many displays and objects that we are proud to show our visitors.
Some of our Ipswich City Councillors and local Members of Queensland Parliament said a few words. We are consistently improving the value of Cooneana Heritage Centre to the community at large.
The light lunch with a celebratory cake was enjoyed by all.
