Ipswich Historical Society Incorporated operates the museum at Cooneana Heritage Centre through members and volunteers. Our members work together to accession and deaccession artefacts in the collection; display and research the stories behind artefacts; update policies and procedures; conserve and preserve items in the collection; guide visitors through the displays; create activities for school children and lots more. We are an active group of people interested in preserving and educating people about the history of Ipswich. We are a friendly and welcoming group always keen to show visitors around the site.
To join the Society you will need to complete a Membership Application Form and have it signed by a member who proposes you and a seconder.
The application form asks for contact details, the type of membership applied for - ordinary, associate, honorary, family or junior and date of birth. You will need to ask the member Proposing you and another member to Second your application and add their names to the form. You are required to sign the form.
The fees applicable to the various forms of membership are shown, however no fees are payable until you are notified that your application is successful.
Family membership covers one or two adults and their children under 18 years of age. Names of children and spouse to be provided on the form.
Please download and print the form, complete your details and bring it to the Ipswich Historical Society inc. The address is 1041 Redbank Plains Road, New Chum, Qld 4303. This is also the postal address if you already have your two members' signatures proposing and seconding your application. Scanned signed copies may be emailed to the Secretary: email@example.com.
Your application will be submitted to the Executive Management Committee for approval, then to the following monthly members' meeting for endorsement. You will then be sent a welcome letter advising of your successful application and giving payment details.
New members pay a once only joining fee of $15.00 plus the appropriate annual dues:
$20.00 for individuals
$50.00 for families
$5.00 for juniors.
Annual dues are renewed by 30 June each year, however if you join after 31 March your annual dues will not be required until the following year.
Once payment of dues is completed, a badge(s) is ordered in the new member's preferred name. This may be picked up from the office.
Members are able to purchase shirts and polos embroidered with the Society's logo for a subsidised price of $25.00.
New members are asked to complete a Volunteer Registration Form. This enables you to identify your interests and any experience and skills you are willing to offer the Society. It should be handed or emailed to the Secretary when completed.
Once you become a member of the Society, you are entitled to vote at monthly members' meetings, take office at the annual general meeting, represent the Society at various forums and develop your knowledge of activities of interest. You can attend Cooneana Heritage Centre on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10am to 2pm every month and on the second and fourth Sundays from March to November.
We are a friendly group who volunteer our time to the museum as we are able. New members are always welcome.
